What Is an HWP File?
.hwp (Hangul Word Processor) is the proprietary document format developed by Hancom Inc. and used across South Korean government ministries, universities, courts, and corporations. HWP v5.0 stores UTF-16LE Korean text and layout streams inside a deflate-compressed OLE2 Compound Document container.
Converting HWP to PDF, DOCX, HTML, and TXT
If you work on macOS, Linux, or an English/European Windows installation without Hancom Office, you can convert .hwp files online on KaijuConverter:

- HWP to DOCX: Extracts paragraphs and sections into an editable Microsoft Word document.
- HWP to TXT / Markdown: Extracts clean UTF-8 Korean text ready for translation or indexing.
