Quality & Compatibility
PNG uses lossless DEFLATE compression, so no pixel information is discarded after rasterization. What is lost is the vector nature of the original content: shapes, text, and lines that were infinitely scalable in PPTX become fixed-resolution bitmaps. The output resolution determines sharpness — at 96 dpi (screen default) a standard 13.33 × 7.5 inch slide produces a 1280 × 720 px image, while 150 dpi gives 2000 × 1125 px and 300 dpi gives 4000 × 2250 px. PNG preserves alpha transparency, which matters if your slide background is set to transparent for overlay use. Embedded slide metadata, speaker notes, animation sequences, hyperlinks, and slide timings are all absent in the output — PNG carries only pixel data and basic chunks like gamma and color space (sRGB). Tips for Best Results
- Export at 150 dpi or higher if the PNG will be printed or used in a high-DPI context such as a Retina display mockup — the default 96 dpi produces a 1280 × 720 px slide image that looks sharp on standard screens but becomes visibly soft when scaled up.
- If your slide uses a transparent background (set via Slide > Format Background > Solid fill with transparency 100%), PNG is the only common raster format that preserves that alpha channel, making it suitable for overlaying the slide content on video footage or other images without a white or colored box around it.
- When the PPTX contains slides of mixed aspect ratios or custom dimensions, each output PNG will match its source slide dimensions exactly — verify the slide size in PowerPoint under Design > Slide Size before converting if you need a specific pixel output such as 1920 × 1080 for a video project.
