Fast, secure VOC to AAC conversion. No registration required.
VOC is the Creative Labs Voice format from the Sound Blaster era. Reaching a AAC from there is one hop. Turn your VOC audio into a widely-supported AAC file. The conversion happens server-side through FFmpeg — the same engine behind every major audio editor — so the output plays cleanly on phones, car stereos, DJ software and streaming tools. Background. VOC is the Creative Labs Voice format from the Sound Blaster era. Destination side, AAC is the Advanced Audio Codec, more efficient than MP3 and ubiquitous in modern streaming.
Creative Voice
Source formatVOC (Creative Voice) is an audio file format created by Creative Labs for Sound Blaster sound cards. It was a dominant PC audio format in the DOS gaming era, supporting multiple data blocks with different sample rates within a single file.
AAC Audio
Target formatAAC is a lossy audio codec that delivers better sound quality than MP3 at similar bitrates. It is the default audio format for Apple Music, YouTube, and most streaming services.
Why convert VOC to AAC
The motivation for a VOC → AAC conversion is almost always practical: a playback device, hosting platform or editing suite that insists on AAC. The audio quality trade-off is controllable via bitrate; the compatibility win is immediate and unambiguous.
HOW TO CONVERT
VOC → AAC
Give us the VOC
Select a VOC (or several for batch). We read the header to pick decoder settings automatically.
Re-encode to AAC
The audio is decoded, optionally resampled, and re-encoded as AAC at transparent default bitrate.
Retrieve your AAC
Grab the download as soon as it is ready. Typical jobs finish in seconds for short clips.
Common Use Cases
Share across platforms
Send AAC files to anyone without worrying about whether they have the right software for VOC.
Embed in documents
Drop AAC output into Word, Google Docs, PowerPoint, Notion or a website without conversion warnings.
Optimize size
AAC often produces smaller files than VOC for web, email and storage.
Archive & future-proof
Store in a widely-supported format that will still open on future operating systems without legacy plugins.
VOC vs AAC — Strengths and limitations
What each format does best, and where it falls short.
VOC Strengths
- Retro-gaming archive format.
- Supported by DOSBox and SoX.
- Block-based structure allows streaming.
Limitations
- Legacy — no new content since mid-1990s.
- Limited sample rates (up to 44.1 kHz).
- No metadata.
AAC Strengths
- Better quality than MP3 at equal bitrate — the industry standard since 2000s.
- Universally supported on every smartphone, OS, and browser.
- Efficient on battery thanks to widespread hardware decoding.
- Scales from 8 kbps speech (HE-AACv2) to lossy-transparent 320 kbps.
- Five-channel + LFE surround support out of the box.
Limitations
- Patent-encumbered — encoders have licensing fees, which is why open alternatives (Opus, Vorbis) exist.
- Slightly more complex to encode than MP3.
- Raw .aac streams carry no seek index — tooling often prefers M4A/MP4 containers.

VOC vs AAC — Typical file sizes
Approximate file sizes for common scenarios.
VOC
- DOS game sound effect 5-50 KB
- Short speech sample 30-300 KB
AAC
- Speech podcast (64 kbps) 1 MB/min
- 3-min music track (128 kbps) 3 MB
- 3-min music track (256 kbps) 6 MB
- Broadcast-quality 5.1 (384 kbps) 9 MB for 3 min
Quality & Compatibility
The AAC output is as good as the VOC source allows. If the VOC was encoded at 96 kbps, the AAC cannot reconstruct detail the encoder already dropped; picking a very high AAC bitrate just produces a larger file. Match AAC bitrate to the VOC quality for the best balance.
Tips for Best Results
- Sample-rate mismatches between VOC and target device (48 kHz phone output from a 44.1 kHz track) are handled automatically; no manual resampling needed.
- For audiobook delivery, match the platform spec exactly — ACX requires 192 kbps CBR 44.1 kHz stereo, for example.
- Batch-convert an album in one job so every track shares identical encoder settings and loudness normalisation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Lossy-to-lossy conversions (most combinations) re-compress the audio, which technically introduces some loss. At a 192 kbps or higher target it is inaudible on normal equipment. Lossy-to-lossless conversions freeze the existing quality but cannot improve it; lossless-to-lossy transcodes are only as good as the target bitrate you choose.
For voice content (podcasts, audiobooks, lectures) 128 kbps is indistinguishable from higher bitrates. For music, 192-256 kbps covers most listening; 320 kbps is the ceiling for AAC and the right choice for audio you plan to edit further. Above that, prefer a lossless target instead.
Yes. Title, artist, album, year and cover art travel from the VOC container to the AAC container automatically where both formats support them. If a tag field has no AAC equivalent, it is dropped silently. Use any tag editor (Mp3tag, MusicBrainz Picard) to fine-tune afterwards.
