Fast, secure F4V to 3GP conversion. No registration required.
Setup: F4V is Adobe's H.264-based Flash video successor to FLV. Goal: an interchangeable 3GP. Converting F4V to 3GP changes how the video is packaged without re-recording it. Most F4V to 3GP jobs are about getting the file to open on a platform that refuses the original container — an upload form, a social app, an older media player. KaijuConverter uses FFmpeg to either stream-copy (no re-encoding, zero quality loss) or transcode when codecs differ, and keeps the original F4V intact. One more beat. F4V is Adobe's H.264-based Flash video successor to FLV. Receiving format: 3GP is the mobile video container standardised by 3GPP for early smartphones.
Flash MP4 Video
Source formatF4V is an Adobe Flash-compatible video container based on the ISO base media file format (similar to MP4). It was used by Flash Player to deliver H.264 video content on websites before HTML5 video became the standard.
3GPP Video
Target format3GP is a multimedia container designed for 3G mobile phones. It stores video and audio at low bitrates optimized for limited bandwidth. Many early mobile phone recordings use this format.
Why convert F4V to 3GP
3GPP Video is better supported than Flash MP4 Video across web uploads, social networks and consumer devices. Converting trades the niche advantages of F4V for broad playback and fewer "file type not supported" messages. Stream copy (when codecs match) keeps the video bit-identical to the source.
HOW TO CONVERT
F4V → 3GP
Upload the F4V
Drop your F4V onto the uploader. Files up to 25 MB run on the free tier without registration; paid plans go up to 2 GB.
Stream-copy or re-encode
FFmpeg probes the codecs; if compatible, it stream-copies (no quality loss). Otherwise it transcodes at matching bitrate.
Download the 3GP
Fetch the converted 3GP as soon as it is ready. Both files auto-delete within two hours.
Common Use Cases
Share across platforms
Send 3GP files to anyone without worrying about whether they have the right software for F4V.
Embed in documents
Drop 3GP output into Word, Google Docs, PowerPoint, Notion or a website without conversion warnings.
Optimize size
3GP often produces smaller files than F4V for web, email and storage.
Archive & future-proof
Store in a widely-supported format that will still open on future operating systems without legacy plugins.
F4V vs 3GP — Strengths and limitations
What each format does best, and where it falls short.
F4V Strengths
- Industry-standard codecs (H.264 + AAC) in a Flash-era container.
- Trivially rewrappable to MP4.
- Was the upgrade path from FLV for 2007-2012 streaming.
Limitations
- Tied to the now-dead Flash Player runtime.
- Offers nothing over MP4 in 2026.
- Non-standard metadata complicates some players.
3GP Strengths
- Extremely low bitrate and file size — great for 2G/3G networks.
- Universal playback in feature phones and early smartphones.
- Based on MP4 — easy to convert and handle with modern tools.
- Mandatory codec in every 3G device since 2001.
Limitations
- Tiny resolutions — rarely above 320×240 in practice.
- H.263 video is far behind H.264 in compression efficiency.
- Metadata support is minimal.

Quality & Compatibility
Stream-copy is bit-perfect: when the codecs inside F4V match what 3GP can carry, the frames are copied across without re-encoding and the output is visually identical to the source. When transcoding is required, we target CRF 20–23 H.264 — visually transparent for most content — and keep audio bitrate at 192 kbps AAC.
Tips for Best Results
- Stream-copy beats re-encoding by orders of magnitude — check if your F4V already uses 3GP-compatible codecs before picking Advanced settings.
- For social uploads, 1080p at 30 fps strikes the best quality-to-size ratio; 4K is often downscaled server-side anyway.
- Keep the F4V if you plan further editing — transcoded 3GP is fine for final delivery but not for intermediate edits.
Frequently Asked Questions
Only when it has to. If the codecs inside F4V (usually H.264 or H.265 for video, AAC for audio) are accepted by 3GP, we stream-copy — the bytes are repackaged into the new container with zero re-encoding and no quality loss. When the source uses a codec the target does not support, we transcode at a matching bitrate to keep the visual quality close to the original.
With stream copy, expect the job to finish in seconds to tens of seconds regardless of video length — the work is mostly rewriting the container. Transcoding is slower (roughly real-time: a ten-minute clip takes about ten minutes) because every frame must be decoded and re-encoded. The progress bar shows which mode applies.
Yes. Resolution, frame rate, colour space and bit depth are preserved by default; stream copy is literally bit-identical on these parameters. If you explicitly pick a lower bitrate or a different codec in Advanced, the output is rebuilt to those settings, but the default is always "match the source".
